Western Country Music - Adore It Or Dislike It, You Probably Have An Opinion!

Everyone has their opinions. We start forming likes and dislikes from a very early age. Some of our evaluations are formed based on our own experiences and others we form based on what we hear from the people around us. Kids readily pick up what the adults around them are saying. This is why most family members belong to the same political party & practice the same religion; it's what they grew up with. A good deal of what we value comes from what we were exposed to as kids. At times we find that we change our opinion on something once we have experienced it for our-selves because the opinion was based upon what we were taught rather than from individual experience.

In the family I grew up in my dad liked to have things quiet. He worked extremely hard at his job and running a piece of farmland so when he sat down for the evening he did not like a great deal of noise or activity going on around him. We could have the tv on low or he would put on tapes of classical music. It was the only music he would listen to. If we had the radio on & western-country music, even country wedding songs, or rock and roll would come on he would say to us to turn it off. He did not understand rock & roll and he thought country western music was cheesey, even the love ballads and country wedding songs. I was exposed to rock & roll through my friends, radio & dances and like it. I didn't listen to country western music at all. I held my dad's opinion of it. Then I started a dating a youthful man in college that listened to country western music all the time. He liked the beat of the music and the stories that the majority of of the songs told.

I truly liked him so when we started dating I put up with the music & tuned it out. We then went to a large outdoor music show that featured several of the hottest country western bands. From that time on I was hooked. I discovered that I also liked the stories the songs told & the music was pleasurable to dance to. At the outdoor music show event I met several of my boyfriend's friends. They taught me how to line-dance to some of the songs. I slow danced to some ballads and country wedding songs. After university I moved to another city and so I lost touch with my boyfriend. In the end I married my current husband and we are raising our family. I still listen to all manner of music, but every time I hear western country music I think back to that concert & how I came to appreciate it. I attempt to let my children experience quite a few different things growing up and try not to influence their opinions.
