Can I use a Galaxy DX99V as a regular CB radio?

Nick P asked:

I drive truck and coming out of a rail yard a guy standing on the street offered me a Galaxy DX99V for $40. I’m finding I made a great buy, as it goes for $349 on alot of websites, but I also found out that it’s really a 10-meter radio. I’d like to use it as just a regular CB, but don’t know if I can or how. If anybody knows what I can set it to for regular CB use, information would be greatly appreciated.

    You can’t.

All CB radios must be FCC type approved AS CB radios.

While there are modifications that can be done to make thm operate on CB frequencies, this is illegal.

Your best bet is to sell it on Ebay. You ought to get more than the $40 you paid for it.

An amateur radio operator may find interest in it.

I agree with the other answer.

also … don’t be tempted to broadcast on it.
It is a federal offense with up to a $10,000 fine.
Recently a number of truckers have been busted for using these radios.
