Hello. KG2DI here! First, go to the home page of the American Radio Relay League. You can find many local radio clubs that offer classes – some take as little as one day – to help you get the entry level license, the Technician Class. Or you can go buy “Now You’re Talking” at Radio Shack for $21.95. It’s a book that’ll get you that license if you can’t go on the computer or if you aren’t close enough to a radio club offering classes.
Hey, good luck! It’s not just a fun hobby but a valuable national resource as well. Hams help out every time there’s a natural or man-made disaster that disrupts normal communications. We manned shelters in New York City after 9/11, we manned shelters and assisted the Red Cross, Salvation Army, FEMA and many other agencies in Louisiana and Mississippi following Hurricane Katrina – in some areas, for weeks! Glad to see ya got an interest. Go for it – you don’t even need to learn Morse Code to get that entry-level license any more!

Go to your local ham radio club. To find one, either go to google or arrl.net and look for a club near you. Hope this helps!
